HANFA flags T+1 settlement switch as EU completes regulatory framework
Croatia's HANFA relays an ESMA notice marking completion of the regulatory framework for the EU's shift to T+1 securities settlement. It sets out an interim deadline in December 2026 and urges market participants to begin testing now, a year ahead of the full transition.
- The EU will move to a T+1 settlement cycle on 11 October 2027.
- Investment firms and their clients must align allocation and confirmation processes with new requirements by 7 December 2026.
- From 7 December 2026, use of electronic and standardised communication channels and international messaging standards becomes mandatory.
- Machine-readable communication methods are required except in cases of temporary technical difficulties.
- ESMA's Regulatory Technical Standards and revised Guidelines on standardised procedures and communication protocols now complete the regulatory framework.
