FSB finalises 12 sound practices for AI adoption at financial institutions
The Financial Stability Board has published its final report on sound practices for responsible AI adoption by financial institutions, finalising a framework first consulted on in June 2026. The 12 practices span board-level governance and lifecycle risk management, intended as a voluntary toolkit for institutions and a coordination reference for supervisors across jurisdictions.
- The FSB published its final report on Sound Practices for Responsible Adoption of Artificial Intelligence on 15 October 2026.
- The report follows a public consultation launched in June 2026, and an overview of consultation responses was published the same day.
- The 12 sound practices are organised into two groups: organisation-wide AI governance and a framework for managing risks across the AI lifecycle.
- The FSB strongly encourages boards and senior management of financial institutions to reference the practices when developing AI governance, risk management and control frameworks.
- The report includes case studies illustrating benefits reported by financial institutions and proportionate application of the practices.
