State Department sets Nov 13 meeting to prepare for IMO's MEPC 85 session

The State Department has scheduled a public teleconference to prepare U.S. positions ahead of the International Maritime Organization's 85th Marine Environment Protection Committee session. The meeting covers the full MEPC 85 agenda, including GHG emission reduction, ballast water rules, air pollution prevention and energy efficiency standards for ships, giving stakeholders a narrow window to engage before the London talks.

  • The public teleconference is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026.
  • MEPC 85 will be held at IMO Headquarters in London from November 30 to December 3, 2026.
  • The agenda includes GHG emission reduction from ships, air pollution prevention, ballast water organism controls and ship energy efficiency.
  • Participants must contact meeting coordinator LT Justus Martin by November 8, 2026 to RSVP or request accommodation.
  • The IMO may adjust the MEPC 85 agenda on short notice, with changes communicated to those who RSVP.
